My project for "Artists observe" was a painting of a flower. I developed and improved my art making skills during this project. When i first decided to paint the flower, I knew that it was going to be an observational painting and I needed something to observe. I thought about getting a real flower to make the painting more realistic but i decided against that because I wanted the flower I was looking at to stay the same throughout the week. I bought a fake flower and began looking at how even on the artificial petals there was a lot of shading and different colors being used. I had a base skill of mixing paints to start me out with from art one, but I had to learn to make many tints (adding white) and shades (adding black) to create the colors i wanted to show the 3 dimensions of the flower. I also gained skill with not just painting, but drawing. Instead of painting straight onto the canvas, which I found unnecessarily risky, I sketched the flower roughly, which was using my observational drawing skills that we had learned in class. Lastly, I renewed my skills of making a gradient.Since the canvas was so big, i needed to fill up the empty space with something. I used a gradient of light blue to dark blue to show light coming from one corner. Overall, I think doing this project helped me improve a lot of the art skills i learned in class and learn some new skills while painting. |
